solar data visualisation
June 2013
Our solar panels are linked to a monitoring system that records the power generation level every ten minutes. I feed all this data into a lovely big juicy spreadsheet.
@gillpea on Twitter had the idea of presenting this data as an info-graphic, so I extracted all the data for last year and worked out how to represent the numbers as colours. My amazing partner (and graphic designer extraordinaire) @nookiedog then took this and turned it into this beautiful visualisation.
Each day of 2012 is represented as one row in the graphic. The various colours denote the amount of power generated in each ten minute segment. Look out for the days getting longer, and shorter again, and the very few sunny weeks we had that year!

WARNING!
Toby was created in a bizarre industrial accident involving a quantity of mercury, ethanol, polonium 210, and Cillit Bang.
